Lutenist-singers entered the field around and contributed to a broadening out of the Elizabethan consort song repertory. Two of the pioneers, Philip Rosseter and John Danyel, known to us as members of Fellowes's school, were referred to in contempo rary records as 'players' rather than musicians. Success in the theatre led more reliably to.   After this Campion went on to publish subsequent songbooks under his own name. Campion was unusual as an Elizabethan songwriter who wrote his words and music together (the common practice was to add the tune or more often the lyrics later, which is why most lyrics for songwriters like John Dowland are considered anonymous).

Although this CD dates from , it has only recently come to my attention and what a charming hour I have been missing. There is a wonderful variety of songs, John Dowland featuring strongly, but also with a good selection from Thomas Campion, a handful of folk songs and a /5(13).   Soo finally here it is my newest bigger Project for you Nesuki:P Hope you ALL like it write comments please =) Worktime: so 2 days. (the first time i neede.

His lyric poetry reflects his musical abilities in its subtle mastery of rhythmic and melodic. Dowland's song "Come Heavy Sleepe, the Image of True Death" was the inspiration for Benjamin Britten's Nocturnal after John Dowland, written in for the guitarist Julian Bream.

It consists of eight variations, all based on musical themes drawn from the song or its lute accompaniment, finally resolving into a guitar setting of the song itself.
